Skills Academy is a Go!

If you have a travel skater or an in house skater considering travel you are welcome to come to our Skills Academy happening Wednesday, Thursday, and Sundays. Please check the calendar for dates and times.

If your player is planning to attend any of the upcoming Skills Academy sessions, please read this email. If not, disregard.

Your player needs to be registered for the 2021-2022 season to attend. The skills trainings are for skaters registering for a travel team, or for registered skaters that are currently deciding between in-house (rink rat) and travel.

There are 12 Skills Academy sessions. There will be six different practice plans, each repeated once, building towards the season. You are encouraged to attend all of them, but it's okay to skip as needed.

Please attend the correct birth-year practice. 2010, 2011, and 2012 are 6:30-7:30pm.  2007, 2008, and 2009 are 7:45-8:45pm.

Whether you attend or not, or how you play while you're there, will NOT be used in evaluations or team assignments. Evaluations for squirts and peewees will occur the week of October 11-17, and for Bantams the week of October 18-24. You'll hear more about the evaluation process as those dates approach.

Some COVID safety issues:

  • All players and coaches need to be masked the entire time they're in the rink.
  • Skaters should not enter the rink until 15 minutes before their designated ice time.
  • If parents will be spectating, they also need to stay masked. Please remain spread out in the stands.
  • Bring a water bottle with your name on it. We'll have kids get water as needed rather than sending all of them to the bench at once.
  • Please get dressed before entering the rink. You may put on skates inside the rink.

YOUNGER GROUP: please use the chairs and leave your bags in the near (entrance) half of the building. Note, we will have a group of Learn to Play skaters leaving as your skaters arrive. Having your skaters get dressed beforehand at home or in the parking lot will greatly help with people flow on Weds evenings.

OLDER GROUP: please use the chairs and open door locker rooms on the far side of the building (i.e. enter and turn left, walking beneath the bleachers at least halfway down).

Your player should not attend if they are awaiting a Covid-19 test result, quarantined due to a Covid-19 exposure or positive test result or if they are not feeling well and/or exhibiting Covid-19 symptoms.

We are so excited to get back on the ice! If you've got questions, please ask.
